WHAT BRINGS YOU TO COUNSELING IS PART OF A LARGER STORY

You may come because anxiety is taking up too much space, motherhood has changed your sense of self, or the responsibility you carry has become difficult to sustain.

Often, the immediate concern is connected to something deeper: the expectations you have learned to carry, the roles you have taken on, the ways you protect relationships, or the patterns that have helped you remain capable and dependable.

Counseling offers space to understand both what is happening now and what may be underneath it. The goal is not to become less caring, less responsible, or less driven. It is to live with greater honesty, self-respect, and freedom.

Motherhood and maternal transitions

The transition into motherhood can begin long before a baby arrives. Trying to conceive, waiting, pregnancy, miscarriage, birth, postpartum adjustment, and the daily reality of raising children can each bring their own emotional weight.

Motherhood may bring love and meaning while also changing your identity, relationships, priorities, body, work, and understanding of what is expected of you. You may care deeply for your family and still feel overwhelmed, lonely, uncertain, or unlike yourself.

Counseling offers room to be honest about the complexity of motherhood without judgment. Together, we can make space for grief, joy, ambivalence, pressure, and change while helping you remain connected to yourself within the many roles you carry.

Identity and life transitions

Sometimes the life you worked hard to create no longer feels like it fits in the same way.

You may be reconsidering your priorities, family roles, relationships, work, faith, or sense of who you are. You may have become so accustomed to doing what is needed that it is difficult to know what you want apart from what others expect or rely on you to provide.

Counseling gives you space to slow down and consider who you are beyond what you accomplish, manage, or carry. Our work can help you understand what is changing, recognize what still matters, and make choices with greater honesty and self-respect.

Anxiety, perfectionism, and
self-pressure

You may appear calm and capable while internally anticipating problems, replaying decisions, or worrying that you are falling short.

You may hold yourself to difficult standards, feel responsible for how others are doing, or struggle to rest when something could still be improved, handled, or prevented. What looks like competence from the outside may feel like constant vigilance on the inside.

Together, we can understand the beliefs and experiences beneath that pressure. Counseling can help you respond to yourself with greater compassion, set limits without becoming less caring, and find a steadier way of relating to your responsibilities.

You do not need to choose the right category

These experiences often shape one another. Anxiety may become more visible during motherhood. A life transition may bring familiar patterns to the surface. Perfectionism may affect your relationships, boundaries, and sense of identity.

Our work begins with understanding you, not placing you into a category.

Known Counseling is intentionally small, and I am thoughtful about fit. If your needs align with my practice, we will begin with a brief consultation and a 60-minute intake session.
